what gets my goat is when I am hanging out with another entertainer, totally away from any show or client and I still have to call them by their stage name. My stage name is Mr.Puppet, Once Mr.Puppet isn't on stage or meeting children at a restaurant, you better call me Bob

also, I was working with a mime in Austin Texas at a subdivision block party, when nobody was around, I said "Hey" to the mime, and he would not answer me or started going into his little act as if he heard me but had to mime his answer, I wanted to slug him cause he made me feel like an idiot. I was his opening act and once I got done performing, he needed help with his sound system, you know what I did?
I just nodded "I know nothing" and picked up my check and left,

@Mike. Amen, brother. Also annoying is when performers do their little bits of business, as if to entertain us. Do we really need to see another stilt walker pretend to hit his head on a door frame?

I believe another time to drop the character is when you are with other entertainers and no one else is around. I've done gigs where there would be an entertainer who refused to drop the character in the break room; where only the other entertainers were. I found this VERY creepy & annoying. I also did one event with a mime recently. We were both early, and actually showed up at the same time. As we were walking together in the parking lot toward the elevator, I started making small talk with her (she was in full make up and I was lugging all my gear). Even though no one else was around, she refused to speak a word and would only respond in mime. Even when we got in the elevator together, with no one else in there but us, she still stayed in character and would not talk. I say, when you're hanging around and networking with other entertainers, DROP THE CHARACTER PLEASE!

I can’t wear a watch, they always break. So got a small alarm clock for $1.00 at a garage sale. It has about a 4″ diameter. I just put it in an inconspicuous spot on stage. It is perfect for timing patter and stories. I am actually working on juggling a 11″ clock, but that routine has timing issues.
